Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid- a naturally occurring substance found in the skin that helps maintain hydration, volume, and elasticity. When expertly injected as a filler, it attracts and binds water molecules, restoring lost volume, smoothing fine lines, and enhancing facial contours for a refreshed, natural look.
Results from hyaluronic acid fillers are immediate and can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on the treatment area, product used, and your individual metabolism. Over time, the body gradually breaks down and safely absorbs the filler, returning the skin to its pre-treatment state without any residue.
To minimize the risk of bruising or swelling, it’s best to avoid alcohol, blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil supplements for about 24-48 hours before your appointment. Stay hydrated and arrive with clean skin, free from makeup or skincare products. Skip active skincare products such as retinoids, AHAS, BHAS, or exfoliating acids – for 2-3 days prior to treatment, as they can make the skin more sensitive.
If you have a history of cold sores, please let your provider know in advance, as preventive medication may be recommended.
